Summer Camp 2023

This year for summer camp, Troop 185B and Troop 185G Scouts came together and went to Camp Cherry Valley located on Catalina Island from July 2nd through the 8th. The adventure started on the boat ride to the island.

Our troop decided to go to summer camp over 4th of July. While at Camp Cherry Valley our scouts had the privilege of getting to watch a fireworks show down by Cherry Cove.

While on the boat our scouts played card games, talked to each other, and interacted with scouts from other troops.

Troop Friends were an important and fun part of camp. Our Scouts had the pleasure of meeting Jules and reuniting with Troop 185’s 44th Eagle Scout Jacob.

On the fourth day of summer camp our troops participated in hike day. As most of our scouts were working on the Sustainability Merit Badge, so all of our scouts were able to go on a hike together. Everybody got to go on a 9.15 mile hike to USC Wrigley Institute.

Merit badges are another big part of summer camp. Almost all of our Scouts participated in water sports this week. Both our Scouts and Leaders did activities in the ocean such as the mile swim, paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, etc.

One of the Scouts’ favorite things about Camp Cherry Valley were the campsite inspections. During campsite inspections, Scouts were able to choose the theme of the inspections. Our Scouts had to use their creativity to plan out how to do campsite inspections.
